I recently purchased a certified Black Angus bull for $6,500, thinking it was a solid investment for my herd. However, when I first let him out to pasture with the cows, I noticed something odd. The bull didn’t seem interested in any of the cows at all. Instead of doing what bulls are supposed to do, he simply wandered around and ate grass, ignoring the cows entirely.
At first, I wasn’t too concerned. After all, I figured he might just need a little time to adjust to his new surroundings. But as the days passed, his behavior didn’t change. No matter how long he was out with the herd, he remained uninterested in the cows. It was becoming clear that this bull wasn’t living up to my expectations. I began to worry that I had spent a lot of money on an animal that wasn’t going to contribute to my breeding program.
Frustrated and unsure of what to do, I decided to call in the veterinarian. I needed to know if there was something wrong with the bull or if I had made a mistake in purchasing him. When the vet arrived, he took a good look at the bull. After a thorough examination, he told me that the bull was in excellent health. The only possible issue, he noted, was that the bull might be a little too young. But other than that, there didn’t seem to be anything physically wrong with him.
I asked the vet what we could do to fix the situation. After some thought, he handed me a bottle of medication and instructed me to give the bull one pill every day. He assured me that these pills should help the bull get more interested in the cows. The vet didn’t say much about what the pills were, but I figured it was worth a try, especially since I had already invested so much in the bull.
To my surprise, after just two days of giving the bull the medication, his behavior completely changed. It was like a switch had been flipped. Suddenly, the bull was paying attention to all of the cows in the herd. Not only was he actively mating with my cows, but he also managed to jump the fence and make his way to my neighbor’s cows! I couldn’t believe it—this bull had gone from being uninterested to being an absolute breeding machine. He didn’t just tend to my cows, but every cow within reach.
I have no idea what was in those pills the vet gave me, but they worked like magic. The bull’s transformation was astonishing. He went from lazy and uninterested to acting like he had endless energy. The funny thing is, the pills themselves had a peppermint-like smell, which made me even more curious about what they contained. Whatever was in them, they did the trick, and now I have a bull who is doing his job better than I ever expected.
In the end, what started as a potentially bad investment turned out to be one of the best purchases I’ve made for my farm. This bull is now more than living up to his price tag, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Sometimes, all it takes is a little help from the vet to turn things around!
