The 71-year-old actor, known for his diverse roles on stage and screen, passed away following the accident, as confirmed by his agent, Barry McPherson, in a statement released on Monday, June 13.

John Travolta, who shared the stage with Williams during their early Broadway days, was among the first to express his sorrow. Travolta fondly remembered their time working together in the musicals Grease and More Than Here. In a tribute on social media, Travolta wrote, “Treat Williams and I started together in NYC, appearing in two Broadway productions, More than Below and Grease.” He added, “I’m truly heartbroken, Treat. You and your family are in my thoughts. You will be deeply missed. Love, John.”

Catherine Zeta-Jones, who starred alongside Williams in the 1996 film The Phantom, also paid tribute. She posted a still from the movie on Twitter, accompanied by the simple message, “R.I.P. Dearest Treat Williams.”

Kim Cattrall, who worked with Williams on the 1999 television movie 36 Hours to Die, expressed her shock at his passing. “I’m in disbelief,” she tweeted. “Farewell, dear Treat. My deepest condolences to Pam, Gille, Ellie, and the entire family. He was a fantastic actor and a dear friend.”

Sharon Stone shared a news article announcing Williams’ death and tweeted, “Sad news, rest in peace, brother.”

Mark Hamill, who had a connection to Williams from their work on The Empire Strikes Back (1980), where Hamill played an uncredited role as a stormtrooper, also shared his grief. Posting a picture of the two of them, Hamill wrote, “Just received the devastating news that the world has lost @Rtreatwilliams. He was such a wonderful person, an incredibly talented actor, and a cherished friend. My heart is broken. #RIP_Friend.”

Emily VanCamp, who co-starred with Williams on the TV series Everwood, also shared her sorrow. Alongside a picture of a young Williams, she wrote, “Every time we worked together was an unforgettable experience, and I always looked forward to the next one. Sending my deepest sympathies to your family, Treat. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”

James Woods, who starred with Williams in the 1984 epic crime drama Once Upon a Time in America, reflected on the bond they formed during filming. “We spent months filming in Rome, and a long shoot like that can make you feel quite isolated,” Woods recalled. “But Treat’s endless sense of humor and warmth were invaluable. I’m heartbroken by his passing. He was someone I truly admired. Godspeed, #TreatWilliams.”

Billy Baldwin penned a longer tribute to Williams, in which he praised the late actor’s intelligence, charm, wit, and generosity. “Treat had a heart of gold,” Baldwin wrote. “This is a tremendous loss. He was a fierce advocate for climate action and social justice. We will miss you, Treat. Rest in peace.”

Williams’ sudden passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew and admired him, both within the entertainment industry and beyond. His legacy as a versatile actor, environmental activist, and kind-hearted individual will live on, but his absence will be felt by many.
