Aging is an inevitable part of life. No one can escape the passage of time, but staying fit plays a crucial role in maintaining both physical and mental well-being. For many, this means going for a daily walk or engaging in light exercise. However, for 33-year-old Russian bodybuilder Nataliya Kuznetsova, fitness is more than just a routine—it’s a way of life.
Nataliya is no ordinary fitness enthusiast. She holds world records in arm lifting, bench pressing, and deadlifting. Just one look at her physique is enough to confirm her dedication to the sport.
Everyone has the right to express themselves however they choose, and no one should be ridiculed for their appearance. Personal choices regarding how we present ourselves to the world are exactly that—personal. At Newsner, we’ve shared countless stories of remarkable individuals who challenge societal beauty standards, choosing instead to carve their own paths. It’s important to recognize and celebrate this diversity. Our differences make the world a richer, more interesting place.
A Journey of Strength and Dedication
Born on July 1, 1991, in Chita, a city in southeastern Siberia, Russia, Nataliya (formerly known as Nataliya Trukhina) was a highly energetic child. She had an early passion for training, particularly in combat sports. By the time she turned 14, she decided to pursue bodybuilding seriously, dedicating herself to intense workouts.
Under the guidance of coach Alexei Ivanov, a respected figure in the fitness community, she followed a strict training and nutrition plan. However, her primary goal wasn’t just to build a muscular physique; it was to develop raw strength. Muscle growth was simply a byproduct of her intense training.
When she started powerlifting, she weighed only 80 pounds. Today, her weight typically fluctuates between 246 and 275 pounds, a testament to her years of dedication.
The Path to Success
Details about Nataliya’s early years are somewhat limited, but what’s known is that she fully committed to bodybuilding as a teenager. At 17, she entered her first competitions. By that time, she weighed 150 pounds and could bench press an impressive 220 pounds—an astonishing feat for someone her age.
Despite her incredible progress, she was still learning the fundamentals of muscle development. Back then, she hadn’t yet discovered the benefits of protein shakes, yet her results spoke for themselves. Her commitment and natural ability soon led her to dominate the sport.
According to The Famous People, her achievements include winning the 2014 Cup of Eurasia in Vologda, Russia, and the 2015 Eastern Europe Cup (GPA). Known as the “World’s Most Muscular Woman,” Nataliya has set numerous records in powerlifting, bench pressing, and deadlifting. Her personal bests include a bench press of over 374 pounds and a deadlift of 530 pounds.
Standing at 5’7” and weighing around 220 pounds in the offseason, she continues to inspire countless people in the fitness community. Her philosophy isn’t about achieving perfection—it’s about showing up, putting in the work, and striving for progress. As she once shared on her Facebook page, “Every day is a new opportunity to take another step forward.”
More Than Just Muscle
Nataliya is not only a record-breaking athlete but also a highly educated individual. In 2013, she earned a degree from the Moscow State Academy of Physical Culture. She also participated in a production of Manon Lescaut at the world-famous Bolshoi Theatre in Russia.
Currently, she resides in Moscow with her husband, fellow bodybuilder Vladislav Kuznetsov. The two met online in 2009 through Odnoklassniki, a Russian social networking site. At first, they were just friends, but over time, their connection deepened. They married in 2015, and while they don’t have children yet, Nataliya has expressed her hopes of starting a family in the future.
Despite her success, Nataliya’s journey has not been without challenges. Early in her career, she struggled financially. Sponsorship opportunities were limited, and she often had to fund her own training and competitions. In Russia, securing financial support for bodybuilding was difficult. However, as she gained more recognition and her images began circulating widely on social media, things started to change.
Now, with a strong presence online, she collaborates with nutrition brands such as Oxytropin and RPS Nutrition. Social media has played a huge role in her career, allowing her to build a loyal fan base. Today, she has over one million followers on Instagram, where she frequently shares fitness tips, workout routines, and glimpses into her daily life.
Handling Criticism and Breaking Stereotypes
As with any public figure, Nataliya has faced criticism. Some people have labeled her appearance as “unattractive” and have used derogatory names to describe her. However, she doesn’t let these opinions affect her. She believes that traditional beauty standards are outdated and that the modeling industry has evolved significantly.
“I don’t follow what others say. My best guide is the reflection I see in the mirror,” she once stated.
She also acknowledges that her unique look draws attention. “People recognize me instantly. Even when I’m dressed normally, my physique is obvious. Many approach me for photos, and quite a few even know my name,” she shared with LadBible.
Despite the negativity from some, she receives an overwhelming amount of support from her fans. Approximately 75% of her Instagram followers are men, many of whom send her messages of admiration. “Compliments directed at an athlete are just as meaningful as those for anyone else,” she said.
A New Chapter
In early 2017, Nataliya announced her decision to retire from powerlifting. However, just a year and a half later, she made a comeback, participating in a major competition in Moscow. She has since embraced coaching, stating that she wants to help others “reach their potential.”
While she has experimented with performance enhancers—admitting to using estrogen blockers—she ultimately chose not to take growth hormones. Her focus remains on natural training and pushing the limits of human strength.
Looking ahead, Nataliya hopes to inspire more people to take control of their health and fitness. Her journey proves that with hard work, determination, and resilience, it’s possible to defy expectations and achieve greatness.
