She chose to name the pup Oscar, in a playful nod to Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street — a lighthearted reference to the unusual place where he had been found.
“Oscar has adjusted beautifully into my home,” Schildt later shared. “He’s a very loving boy, and he amazes me each day with how resilient he is, especially considering everything he’s gone through.” Her words paint a picture of a dog who, despite pain and hardship, radiates warmth and trust toward the humans who saved him.
As word of Oscar’s story spread, people in the community and across social media began to rally behind him. Donations poured in to support his therapy and medical expenses.
